If you self-identify as a boy and are interested in joining the Phoenix boys of Leather, let one of us know! We have a two-fold purpose – to participate in a brotherhood of boys and to be of service to the community. The group is open to anyone who self-identifies as a leather boy over the age of 18, without regard to gender, orientation, or appearance. We gather in boyhood to support our members and to serve our community with respect and integrity.
Becoming a full member takes time and is unique to each individual.
The following is a summary of our membership process from our guidelines (aka by-laws):
1. Meet the members
First and foremost, we are a group of friends who care about one another, and the best place to start your journey with the Phoenix boys of Leather is to meet everyone. Each leather boy is unique. We want to get to know YOU, and we also want you to get to know us. We are a strong band of friends and believe it is important that we work together as a group. It is ok that we are not all the same; in fact, we thrive on being a diverse group with members that have different interests, perspectives, and experiences. If there is a member you don’t know, ask one of us that you do know to make sure you get introduced. Come hang out with us, join us for events, participate and have some fun! Please “like” our Facebook page where we post public events. Getting to know our members is an integral part of the process to becoming a full member.
2. Show Up & Get Connected
Our group thrives on participation and we invite you join us to so we can get to know each other. Come be social, active, and engage at events and gatherings while we serve our community. It is about fun and being there for each other. This includes showing up and being a part of a leather brotherhood, regardless of gender. See you at the next PboL event!!
3. Get a Mentor
If you decide that the Phoenix boys of Leather is the right group for you, the next step is to talk to our vice-president about helping you find a mentor. Your mentor will discuss your leather boy journey, encourage you to get to know our brotherhood, and help you through the process of becoming a member.
4. Complete the Membership Application
When your mentor and you decide that the time is right for nomination into the group, they will provide you with an “Apply for Membership” application to fill out. Your mentor will review the application with you, and suggest ways to make it fully represent your unique identity as a leather boy. Once your application has been finalized with your mentor, your mentor will submit it to the members of the group for nomination. Nominations for membership occur at business meetings and will be decided by majority vote during a members-only session. The members will make one of three decisions: 1) yes you are a member, 2) not at this time so we can get to know you better, 3) no you are not a member.
